Journal History

The scholarly journal “Vestnik VGIK” is the leading periodical of the Federal State-Funded Educational Institution of Higher Education « Russian State University of Cinematography named after S.A. Gerasimov (VGIK), published quarterly (4 issues per year) since 2009. By the decision of the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission under the RF Ministry of Education and Science, “Vestnik VGIK” was put in the List of leading peer-reviewed scientific journals and publications which cover the results of researches for PhD and doctoral theses that meet the requirements of the Higher Attestation Commission in academic areas:

“Art Criticism”, “Cultural Science”, “Philosophy”. The journal’s founder is the Funded Educational Institution of Higher Education “Russian State University of Cinematography named after S. A. Gerasimov (VGIK).” The journal is indexed by the Higher Attestation Commission and the Russian Science Citation Index.

The "Vestnik VGIK" publishes original articles on the research in audiovisual media in the

following scientific disciplines:

5.10.3. Media  (Cinema, Television and other screen arts);

5.10.1. Theory and History of Culture, (Culture Studies, Philosophy, Art History);

5.7.3. Aesthetics.

Under the 2022 reform carried out by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science regarding the categorization of scientific qualifications and in accordance with letter No. 02-1198 of December 6, 2022 of the Higher Attestation Commission, the scholarly journal “Vestnik VGIK” passed the scientometric rating of the Higher Attestation Commission expert council and was awarded category K 2 (quartile).

The scholarly journal “Bulletin of VGIK” is a peer-reviewed periodical (quarterly) indexed in the databases of the Higher Attestation Commission and the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI). The impact factor of the journal in the RSCI in 2022 is 0.220. The journal is publicly available on the eLIBRARY.RU platform (https://elibrary.ru/title_profile.asp?id=30149)  and on the VGIK website: https://vestnik-vgik.com

The electronic version of the printed edition is registered in the Russian Federation Book Chamber of the Information Agency of Russia (TASS). In 2020 it obtained a Registration Certificate of the National ISSN Center and got the International Standard Serial Number ISSN 2713-2471 (Online). The newly opened journal’s website integrated its electronic version into the information space (linked to the official website of VGIK – www.vgik.info), attracting readers’ attention to the subject matter of the published articles and increasing the citation rates of theoretical research in audiovisual arts. In 2019, “Vestnik VGIK” was presented at the International Book Fair in China (BIBF: 26th Beijing International Book Fair at the China International Exhibition Center (New Venue). This allowed to submit a series of scientific publications in Chinese and English so that VGIK, then celebrating its centenary, could not only familiarize international academic community with Russian science and filmmaking heritage, but also promote Russian traditions and achievements, as well as the latest studies in the field of audiovisual arts, which will undoubtedly open up ample opportunities for foreign scholars of cinema, television and other screen arts.
